In partnership with the local televsion stations in Fort Wayne, the Allen County Department of Homeland Security and the National Weather Service will co-host a Winter Weather Partnership Summit on Saturday November 7th. This program was developed to provide a method to show how our services work to serve you. The Summit will take place on Saturday, November 7th from 9am to 1pm at the Public Safety Academy in Fort Wayne. This is a free event and seating is limited to the first 300 people.

The Summit will kick off with a session for the Fort Wayne television station weather departments to present a short overview of their winter weather capabilities, operations and services. Following a short break, a round-table discussion will take place with representatives from the National Weather Service, Emergency Management, Indiana Department of Transportation, the American Red Cross and the local television meteorologists. You will get the opportunity to ask questions and learn how each of these organizations prepares for winter conditions.

Winter weather storms, winter safety and winter preparedness will be presented by the National Weather Service.

If you are a weather watcher and would love to do more with your weather passion, then becoming a CoCoRaHS volunteer may be for you. CoCoRaHS, or the Community Collaborative Rain Hail and Snow Network, is a network of volunteers working together to measure and record precipitation. By using a standardized rain gauge, participants take measurements on a daily bases and record the data into the CoCoRaHS website. This is a community project for anyone, from children to senior citizens, who have an enthusiasm for watching and reporting weather conditions. A CoCoRaHS training seminar will take place at the Winter Weather Partnership Summit. You will learn how to take precipitation measurements, which include rain total and snow depth. While attending the Winter Weather Partnership Summit, bring your weather radios for programming help and advice. National Weather Service representatives will be on hand to help you set up your radio.

8:00am - 9:00am: Doors Open/ NWS will program weather radios

9:00am - 9:45am: Media Presentation

9:45am - 10:45am: Round Table Discussion with NWS, Emergency Management, INDOT, American Red Cross, and the local TV stations

10:45am - 11:00am: Break

11:00am - 11:30am: Winter Safety

11:30am - 11:40am:  Break

11:40am - 1:00pm:  CoCoRaHS Training
