Synopsis

A stationary front was located from Kansas into the western Great Lakes. South of this front a weak, but persistent flow of deep moisture was flowing into northern Indiana. Thunderstorm Wind Damage: June 19, 2009

Thunderstorms moved into the area late Thursday night (June 18) and caused widespread damage across southern Michigan and northern Indiana through the early morning hours of Friday, June 19. This damage was consistant with that of a bow echo, which is a line of storms in the shape of a bow. These storm complexes usually cause winds to blow to 60-80 mph, and proved true in our area. Several trees and powerlines were blown down across many areas of northern Indiana and southern Michigan.

This heavy rain on Tuesday, March 10 into the overnight, combined with the weekend's rain just a few days before, created a hazardous flooding situation throughout the area.

Heavy rain fell over the area this past weekend resulting in widespread flooding of lowland areas, streets, and rivers.  The map below shows the rainfall that fell between Saturday and Sunday night.
